At 550 West Washington, we take pride in being at the forefront of sustainability and lessening our building’s impact on the environment as much as possible. The building was one of the first in Chicago to obtain the U.S. Green Building Council’s coveted LEED EB O&M Platinum status in 2009, and was recertified at the Platinum level again in 2014 and 2019. The building’s Energy Star Score is currently at 85 out of 100 and shows a continual increase over time. The property also participates in the City of Chicago’s Retrofit Chicago program, and reduced energy usage by 25% in just 3 years. The property was awarded the Mayor’s Leadership Circle Award for meeting the target energy reduction in 5 years or less and received local recognition.

Both the Engineering staff and Management team here at 550 West Washington are LEED Green Associates and continually take classes to obtain more knowledge of green concepts to implement at the building. Tenants are urged to participate in sustainability practices with recycling seminars, electronic waste recycling events, and Earth Week events, and are encouraged to use environmentally friendly office products.
